INVEST IN EDUCATION
Since becoming Vice Chair of the Education Committee, I helped increase Michigan's investment in education by $2.8 billion a year. I've fought for—and will continue to fight for—our children. I'm committed to ensuring all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
$800 million in new road funding this year!
I supported a legislative package to allocate billions of additional dollars to our roads, including $800 million in new funding this year. The package also includes new quality standards and contractor requirements to make sure once roads are fixed they stay fixed.
Michigan has the highest auto insurance rates in the country. Michigan drivers pay $1,200 a year more than drivers in neighboring states. I've introduced a package of bills to lower drivers' rates, and I'll continue to take on "status quo" politicians until we get rate relief passed.
Seniors on a fixed income need to be protected. Now that the state's budget has stabilized, we need to roll back the pension tax. I voted to eliminate the pension tax and eliminating this tax will be a top priority in teh next legislative session.
KEEP TAXES LOW
Government needs to live within their means just like you do. As a conservative, I don't like increasing taxes and I oppose raising Michigan's income tax rate.
Jobs, more specifically, good paying jobs are critical for economic prosperity. Government needs to get out of the way and regulations which hinder job growth need to be reformed.
